Day 30 - Not Just Another Student

Today's post is from Emily Staunton, sophomore and swimmer at MWHS

In the dictionary “different” is defined as “having individuality.” Mound Westonka, through it’s acceptance and ability to nurture the uniqueness in their students, is different. I’m not just another student. I am an individual. The staff encourages my individuality, helps me discover new talents, and gets to know me as a person. Whether it is teachers who have helped increase my desire to learn, helped me gain self confidence, or the office staff who has greeted me warmly, many of the staff at Mound Westonka have helped me better understand my potential.

I’ve also felt this acceptance outside of the classroom. As part of the Girls’ Swim & Dive Team, I’m thankful to have a coach that challenges me to go out of my comfort zone and discover what I’m truly capable of. She puts me in new events and also offers advice that will help strengthen my strokes. At all times, my coach treats me with respect and equality. Again, I am seen as an individual and for what I can bring to the team.

Thank you, Mound Westonka for helping me to better understand who I am, empowering me, and believing in me. Thank you for being different!
